Music, movies and a popular ’60s era TV show have all mythologized the famed cross-country Highway Route 66.  Also known as the Will Rogers Highway and Main Street of America, Route 66 was officially established in1926. It originally ran from Chicago, IL through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona, landing in Santa Monica, CA, a total of 2,448 miles is a road so quintessentially American that it has become a permanent part of our cultural memory, notes the Lemay American Car Museum, as they opened their newest exhibit Route 66: Dream of the Mother Road,on May 3, 2014.

If you’re a car lover, travel buff, or road-trip junkie, this could be a great day-off or weekend activity. The Lemay American Car Museum is located at 2702 East D. St., Tacoma, WA 98421 (right off that other colorful route). Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week.
